What is a Tribal Historic Preservation Officer?
In accordance
with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), a Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO) is the designated tribal preservation official of a federally recognized Indian Tribe. A THPO is responsible for the administration of any or all of the functions of a State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) with respect to tribal land.
