Employment with Nisqually Indian Tribe
The Nisqually Indian Tribe is committed to fair and equitable employment practices while honoring Native preference in hiring, transfers, promotions, and other employment actions. We seek dedicated professionals who will contribute to the success of the Tribe and its community.

 

Native American & Nisqually Tribal Preference
In accordance with Section 2-19: Hiring, Separation, and Native American Preference, employment preference is applied as follows when applicants meet the minimum job qualifications:
     1. Enrolled Members of the Nisqually Indian Tribe
     2. Enrolled Members of other federally recognized Tribes
     3. Individuals who are within their household supporting an enrolled member of the Nisqually Tribe.
Only when no qualified candidates entitled to preference are available will other applicants be considered.

All applicants must apply through the Nisqually Job Postings Portal: nisquallyhr.applicantpro.com.
Applicants are required to upload the following documents:

  • Resume
  • Tribal ID or enrollment documentation (if claiming Native preference)
  • Additional documents such as cover letters, letters of recommendation, or other supporting materials
  • Copies of required degrees, certificates, licenses, and/or training records as listed in the job posting

Employment Standards & Legal Compliance
All Job Postings – NSORNA
In accordance with Nisqually’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (NSORNA), all individuals who have ever been convicted of a sex offense are required to register with the Nisqually Public Safety Department. This requirement applies whether or not the individual is currently required to register in another jurisdiction.

 

Positions Working with Indian Children & Vulnerable Adults
Certain positions may involve regular contact with, or authority over, Indian Children, Elders, or other Vulnerable Adults. In compliance with federal law and the Nisqually Tribal Decree protecting Elders and Vulnerable Adults, such positions will not be filled by applicants who have been convicted of:

  • Any felonious offense under federal, state, or tribal law involving crimes of violence, sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact, or prostitution
  • Crimes against persons
  • Offenses committed against children
  • Two or more misdemeanor offenses under federal, state, or tribal law involving crimes of violence or crimes against children

Applicants selected for these positions will be subject to rigorous background checks to ensure compliance.

 

Internal Applicants
Current Nisqually Tribal Government employees in good standing may apply for internal postings. Eligibility requires:

  • Regular full-time or part-time status
  • A performance rating of “satisfactory” or above
  • No current performance-related discipline
  • Meeting all qualifications listed in the job description
